Freelancer: Black Dawn is a role play environment. While one does not have to take part in the "hard core" roleplay, everyone is assigned a rank and expected to follow the chain of command. Failure to follow orders will result in a penalty of some sort.

Officers of these ranks are typically in charge of Fleets and other large groupings of ships. These are most responsible for the conception and overall implementation of the battle plan.

Officers of these ranks comprise the Captains and command crew of ships and strike craft. In the absence of flag officers, tactical command falls to the next highest ranking officer.
